In the preface of the First Edition of "Principles of the Law of Evidence," published in 1977, Dr. Avtar Singh described the book as an introduction to and a brief study of the principles of the Law of Evidence underlying the provisions of the Indian Evidence Act — a work he dedicated as a humble tribute to that Act's century-long success. Today, after incorporating the provisions of the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023, the book continues that legacy.
